Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to ask for a Google review?
Soon after the job is finished, while the experience is fresh, is the usual choice, with a next-day or three-day message as a second option. Send one gentle reminder at most. Use the same timing for every customer rather than choosing who to ask.
Can I give a discount or gift for a review?
No. Google's policy lists offering incentives such as payment, discounts or free goods or services for reviews as prohibited, and reviews posted because of an incentive can be removed. Do not offer entries, rewards or gifts either, even small ones.
Can I send the link only to customers I know are happy?
No. Asking only satisfied customers, or screening people before you send the link (review gating), is something Google's policy prohibits as selectively soliciting positive reviews. The FTC says the consumer reviews rule has no specific prohibition on it but that it could still be unfair or deceptive under the FTC Act. Send the same request to every customer.
Do I need permission to text customers a review request?
Usually yes. Texting a customer for marketing-type purposes generally requires their consent, and review requests are often treated that way. Collect consent first and include a way to opt out. This is general information, not legal advice.
What link should I put in the message?
Your Google review link, which opens the "write a review" box for your business. Paste your Place ID or your g.page review link above and it is added to the message. If you do not have one yet, create it and a QR code with our Google review link and QR generator.
How long should a review text be?
Short. One text segment holds 160 characters of plain text (153 per part once it is split into several), and special characters such as curly quotes or emoji drop that to 70. The counter under the text shows your length and number of segments.
